“The Show” –Pre-During-Post
“The Show” –Pre-During-Post
Wow, is all I can really say. I apologize for my late blog since it has been over a week since our huge event on October 29th titled “The Show” featuring Mc Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, and Dj D-Nice. We’re so appreciative of Hennessy and ALL their support! We also really want to thank the talent, who made this night so memorable, Dj D-Nice, Doug E. Fresh, Mc Lyte, Slick Rick and dance groups The Groovaloos and World Famous. It was entertaining from the minute the doors opened to when “the Show” was over.
There was a lot that went into this night. The concept was conceived in July. We weren’t sure we had enough time to plan such a major event and get the sponsor dollars necessary to make this vision a reality; but as you know, we did it! Decks were being created left and right for different sponsors, our team of helpers were dispersed in the world of corporate waiting for the first bite. It was a challenging month to get sponsor’s being that the fiscal year was coming to a close the month our show was scheduled to go live. Before we knew it, sponsors were raising their eyebrows and interest spread. Conclusively, we were very excited to work with Hennessy. Hennessy is a luxury cognac, and we've always had a great respect for the type of event experience Hennessy has executed successfully over the last few years. Not to mention, the Honey Collective is a fan!
Production and planning was in full swing at the beginning of October. Yes, for those who attended our Esquire Mansion event with Hennessy, the day after is when we began production. This left us with less than a month to get everything together. Yes, the clock was ticking.
Talent booking, venue scouting, invites, hiring of the vendors, décor and budgets galore…it was on! Every little detail has to be tended to and we didn’t have much to time to do so. We quickly began hiring! Scetch of the Specialists assisted us with the invite, Rashida and Eque began working on the CD, Monica and began booking the musical talent, I began booking the dance talent and we still had to decide on a venue. Before long, we solidified the venue (thank you Misty and JP!) and we were off. Within the first week, we had decided on the mailer, it’s creative and copy. This seems like a simple task, but when so many parties must agree on the same entity…it slowly became a somewhat prolonged step in our multi-step process. Little tweaks here and little tweaks there, does the logo look right? Is it too busy? What do you think about the colors? Should we use music with the invite? With time, we all came to agreement on the mailer and it was delivered to our special invites.
The CDs were in production, the sets were being created, the slide shows were in motion, riders for the talent were executed, hotel reservations made, travel accommodated and the checklist began to slim…somewhat.
We luckily had people like Sarah Jabbari of SMJ Entertainment, Wendy Rose and Eugenia Marshall of Social Butterfly helping us enormously the day of the event. We had a number of people there that day helping and we really can’t express how thankful we are! We really couldn’t have done it without them! There was so much to be done. The event itself turned out like a masterpiece! It was a perfect storm and turned out just right. To be honest, I was in a whirl wind that day and didn’t have the opportunity to experience the night the way I wished…but none the less I know it was an exceptional night for so many.
For those who missed the event here’s what you missed.
World Famous from San Diego danced their asses off at the entrance of the event in front of the HUGE boom box blaring music. This was the beginning of “the show” experience. Everyone came in their freshest 88’ attire and was welcomed with a beautiful gold carpet representing “honey.” Celebrities and special guests graced this star driven event as publications were eager to grab photos and interviews. Prince, Ricky Bell, Yo-Yo, Raekwon, Mystro Clark, Rodney Perry, Dj Quik, the Jabbawockeez to name just a few were in attendance. The event provided a visual and auditory experience like no other event I’ve attended in LA. (Perhaps I’m biased) Artist – Flewnt was doing a live performance painting, and his work was featured across the wall. Guests were able to take a picture in front of a throwback back drop created by Phade, and the appetizers were delightful! The Show began around 11:30pm with the Groovaloos getting the party started! They ripped it on stage and the crowd went crazy. Soon after they finished their set, Dj D-Nice and Doug E Fresh got on the mic, accompanied by Mc Lyte and Slick Rick! It was out of control. People were waving their hands and the air and singing along to some of the greatest hits of all time. It was a night I think most will not forget.
The Honey Collective and Hennessy were also very proud to donate to Urban Farming. We met the owner at Prince’s house awhile back and were taken aback by their initiative and dedication to eradicate hunger around the world!
The night wasn’t over just yet. Eque and Rashida did the damn thang with the cds! ILL! The girls worked their asses off to make the delivery date and we’re so happy they did because everyone got to leave with a special gift from the Honey Collective.
We hope everyone had a good time and really words cannot express how thankful we are for all the support we’ve been given. Much thanks to Jeff and Shay of Brown Hot Events and Elisabeth from Hennessy!
Until next year……..Much love!

My Birthday
I'm a tad late with this post and I blame it completely on the event craziness that has been circulating in and out of my life rather rapidly. I've been meaning to sit my bootie down and talk about this recent memory in my life that I will never forget!
My birthday started out with a whole lot of love from my work. Big Minnie Mouse balloon, big cupcakes, cake and candles...majorly unexpected, thoughtful and super sweet. "Boo you're beautiful is what I wanted to say!
I'm so glad I celebrated my birthday! Thanks MO! Booo...you're beautiful!
Let's start with the beginning. First of all, I had NO intention of celebrating this year. I was suffering from the infamous "birthday blues," amongst other things and my best friend and business partner Monica Payne was being extremely insistant upon me doing something. She sent me texts and emails regarding my birthday plans and I was simply just not feeling compelled. Isn't it funny how we impose the tradition onto our friends to celebrate their birthday, as we proceed to give the the speech stating the obvious "why it's important that we celebrate" facts; but when it comes to our own birthdays we do the same thing they were doing. And in the end...9 times out of 10 we're happy we did! LOL.
My birthday started out with a whole lot of love from my work. Big Minnie Mouse balloon, big cupcakes, cake and candles...majorly unexpected, thoughtful and super sweet. "Boo you're beautiful is what I wanted to say!
Then I spent some QT with my guy and had a great time with family! It was far from over. When returning from the bay, Monica threw my birthday party at the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills on the rooftop. One of my fav spots. Gorgeous! I was happy to see everyone who was there and it was perfect. I started my night off with the infamous "salted margarita," and kept it movin'. The weather was perfect, drinks we're fabulous and I got a ton of gifts. Every woman loves gifts! The cake was yummy and seriously I had an ultra "boo your all beautiful" speech. After my sobby speech, ( you know how I do ) the folks headed over to Jav and Jerry's night at Crimson/Opera.
Ordered another Margarita and was dancing the night away. Before long, Ms. Rashida got a text on her bat phone and yes yes, Prince himself having one of his amazing soiree's! It's always a good time heading to Prince's...I mean really...how can it not? Thanks to Ms. Rashida I was able to share this amazing time with some of my best friends! Boo is beautiful! This was the best gift ever! I was seriously on a natural high off the love, excitement and 25% was the alcohol I'm sure...but I couldn't stop smiling! We left the Crimson and we are on our way to Princes'.
I could see the look on my best friend Jewels face, when she first walked in.... it read "omg...are you serious?" The fabulous wait staff who usually spruce up the most delectable appetizers were busy making something delicious in the kitchen, and the wine was being poored. My fav! Looking back, it may have not been the smartest choice to have a glass of white following my margarita run...but hey IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY! Everything goes tonight! We entered the jam session room where Prince usually has one or a couple extremely talented artists jammin' with him. Nothing short of amazing as usual. I was feeling fantabulous to say the least and then Your Royal Badness closes the unforgettable evening with "PURPLE RAIN." A perfect end to a perfect evening!
And of course it was around 5am...oh lord!
I'm so glad I celebrated my birthday! Thanks MO! Booo...you're beautiful!
ps. Can you believe I made it to work the next morning. Holy crap! Gatorade Saved My Life!
Honey 2 Year Anniversary!
Currently, we're preparing for the Honey Collective 2 Year Anniversary! I would love to let everyone know all the goodies we have lined up...but you'll just have to wait to receive the official invite! Ms. Payne has been working her bootie off with the lineup and we're in the midst of receiving the "GO" for a great majority of the production. Save the special date: October 29th 2008! It's a night that will not be forgotten! TRUST! Boos...it' s about to be beautiful.

Events
Things have been non stop the past two weeks and what a blessing! I currently work for Disney during the day as an events producer and I love it. Also, my business with OtoPayne Inc and the Honey Collective have really moving forward! I recently produced an event for the entire company at Disney Online at the Roosvelt Hotel. I must it admit...it was pretty fabulous! Synchronized swimmers, rockin' dj, chocolate fountains, delicious food, perfect weather, fire pits, and open bar! HELLO!
With every event, there is usually always something that catches me off guard. For instance, we had no idea the swimmers were going to show up...because they had been unreachable for two weeks and never confirmed. 6pm hit and in walks 12 girls ready to put on a show. I was like "okay...let's do it!" Event began at 730 and the weather could not of been more perfect. Scetch and Dj Spider were the hired dj's for the evening and they killed it. They had all the folks breakin' it down. Literally, my co-workers started battling and getting their freak on. Liquid Courage...love that! It was awesome to have been a part of providing a good time for such a hard working staff.
Meanwhile, Monica Payne and I were hired to produce Wendy Williams congratulatory party, celebrating her show being picked up for 20 more episodes on Fox. Singer/Songwriter Teddy Riley was in the house, blogger B Scott was representin', actor/comedian DeRay Davis amongst others were enjoying the evening out on the town.
Tonight, the Honey Collective is teaming up with cognac Hennessy to produce an event at the Esquire mansion titled "the Art of a Gentleman." Men and Women alike....prepare to be pampered!
and of course...we're throwing an after party! you know how we do. Following the Esquire mansion, prepare to party at the Standard Hotel in Hollywood at the Purple Lounge. The sweet sounds of Dj Rashida and Dj Anthony Valadez will permeate the air!
and as for the Honey Collective 2 year Anniversary! I can't ruin the surprise...but history is about to be made! Pictures to come!!!!

MY OUTFIT...
Sometimes when throwing as many events as I do, the production process for launching just one event can be a blur. With all the meetings, emails, flyers, talent, invoices, budgets etc...you have to remind yourself which event you're actually working on...the last thing you want to do in the 1th hour is squander over what to wear. BUT OF COURSE...this is ALWAYS A SUBJECT matter that woman banter over event for event/date for date/dinner for dinner at the last minute.
The reason I bring this up is because of course...this is exactly what happened on Saturday afternoon right before the event. Mentally I had made the decision 4 days prior to wear a pair cute high waisted pants I had purchased two weeks before. 30 minutes before departure, I finished my hair and makeup and put on my pants only discover they were wayyyyyy to long. DAMN!!!!!
So I then proceeded to go through my ten step thought process.
Top Eight Things that Run Through My Thoughts when choosing an Outfit.
1: "Shit...I just wore this last week...will someone notice?"
2: Can I get away with wearing the same outfit two nights in a row?"
3: Hmmmm...
4: "Do I look like a hooker?"
5: Fashion is also conditioned. Once you see the crazy drunk girl at a party wearing a dress you own, one may never want to wear that dress ever again. Dress=crazy drunk girl=no wear that dress.
6: "This dress could be cute with some jewelry"
7: "I think I could get away with wearing this outfit if the lights are dim."
8: Does it look like I'm trying too hard? What does that really mean anyways? Trying to look like you're not trying...it's alot of work people!
In conclusion, I saw the light. My scissors glistened from across the room. That's right...I cut my pants and made the adjustment. Yes they ended up unraveling throughout the day. Yes it was funny, and yes people noticed. On the flipside I think people thought the pants were supposed to be that way. LOL. Shooot, we pay more nowadays for wrinkled t-shirts and dirty looking jeans. Why not ad unhemmed pants into the same category? In the end, it all worked out fabulously:)
